Rebutia - Fabrisii

Rebutia Fabrisii is a captivating small cactus known for its vibrant flowers and compact, clustered growth.

 

Key Features:

  • Origin:
    • Native to northern Argentina, particularly in the province of Jujuy.  
  • Appearance:
    • It's a small, globular cactus that often forms clusters.  
    • The stems are typically olive green and covered with dense, white spines.
    • The spines can sometimes obscure the green body, giving it a "snowy" appearance.
  • Flowers:
    • One of its most striking features is its bright, colorful flowers.  
    • Flowers typically range in color from orange to red, and sometimes yellow.
    • The flowers encircle the crown of the stem, creating a beautiful display.
  • Size:
    • It's a diminutive cactus, usually growing only 2 to 3 inches (5-7 cm) tall and wide.  
  • Growth Habit:
    • It tends to grow in clumps, producing multiple offsets.  

Cultivation and Care:

  • Light:
    • Rebutia fabrisii thrives in bright, direct sunlight.  
    • Indoors, a south-facing window is ideal.  
    • Outdoors, it should receive several hours of direct sunlight daily.
  • Soil:
    • Requires well-draining soil, typical for cacti.  
    • A cactus-specific potting mix is recommended.  
  • Watering:
    • Water thoroughly during the active growing season (spring and summer) when the soil completely dries out.  
    • Reduce watering in the fall and winter, keeping the soil almost dry.  
  • Temperature:
    • It's not frost-tolerant and should be protected from freezing temperatures.  
    • Prefers cooler temperatures in the winter to encourage blooming in the spring.
