Aloe - Aculleata

Aloe - Aculleata

* PLEASE NOTE: Stock of this product is currently quite small.

The Aloe Aculleata is a striking succulent, characterized by its unique leaf structure and texture. This relatively low-maintenance plant can be a captivating addition to any succulent collection.

Key Features:

  • Displays a rosette of thick, fleshy leaves that are broad at the base and taper towards the tip.
  • The leaves have a blue-green hue.
  • The leaf margins are lined with prominent, sharp teeth that have a reddish-brown color, adding a distinct textural contrast.
  • The overall form is relatively compact.

Care:

  • Light: Prefers bright, indirect sunlight to maintain its coloration and form. Insufficient light may lead to stretching.
  • Watering: Requires infrequent watering, allowing the potting mix to dry out completely between waterings. Be particularly cautious of overwatering, especially during cooler periods.
  • Soil: Needs a well-draining potting mix specifically formulated for cacti and succulents to ensure excess moisture can escape.
  • Temperature: While relatively hardy, it should be protected from prolonged periods of frost.

Maintenance:

  • Regularly inspect the plant for any signs of dead or drying leaves and remove them to keep the rosette tidy and prevent potential issues.
  • Repotting should only be done when the plant has outgrown its current container, typically every one to two years. Choose a pot with good drainage.
  • Fertilizing is generally not necessary, but a diluted succulent fertilizer can be applied sparingly during the active growth period (typically spring and summer).

Propagation:

  • Offsets (Pups): As the plant matures, it may produce smaller offshoots around its base. These can be carefully separated once they have developed their own root system and potted individually. Allow any cut surfaces to callous over before planting.
  • Leaf Cuttings: Propagation from leaf cuttings is possible but can be slow and less reliable for this type of Aloe. A healthy leaf can be removed, allowed to callous, and then placed on well-draining soil to encourage rooting.

With its distinctive leaf shape, powdery coloration, and contrasting marginal teeth, Aloe Aculleata offers a unique aesthetic appeal. Its manageable care requirements make it a rewarding succulent to cultivate, bringing a touch of arid beauty to any collection.
