The Agave americana 'Mediopicta Alba' is a striking succulent known for its bold, variegated leaves.

    • Appearance:
      • It forms large, dramatic rosettes of thick, fleshy, gray-green leaves.
      • The most distinctive feature is the broad, creamy-white to bright white central stripe that runs down the length of each leaf.
      • The leaf edges are armed with sharp, recurved spines, and the leaf tips end in a strong terminal spine.
    • Size:
      • It's a medium-sized agave, typically growing to 3-4 feet (90-120 cm) in height and 4-6 feet (120-180 cm) in width.
    • Flowers:
      • Mature plants produce tall flower stalks (up to 15 feet or more) with greenish-yellow flowers.
      • Agaves are known as "century plants" because they can take many years (not necessarily a century) to bloom, and the plant typically dies after flowering.
    • Growing Conditions:
      • Sunlight: Prefers full sun. Tolerates light shade.
      • Soil: Requires well-drained soil, such as sandy or gravelly mixes.
      • Watering: Drought-tolerant; needs minimal watering, especially once established.
      • Hardiness: Generally hardy in USDA zones 8-11. It is important to know that it is frost sensitive.
    • Uses:
      • Popular as an accent plant in gardens, rock gardens, and succulent gardens.
      • Suitable for container growing.
      • Adds a dramatic, architectural element to landscapes.
    • Important Considerations:
      • The sharp spines pose a hazard, so it's best to plant it away from foot traffic.
      • The sap can be irritating to the skin, so wear gloves when handling the plant.

    Additional Information:

    • It is a cultivar of Agave americana, known for its variegated leaves.
    • It is a plant that is prized for its unique look.
    • When handling this plant, take proper care, due to the sharp spines, and the caustic sap.
